Horticulture Crops
Tuber Plants
Meghalaya has a good scope for cultivation of a wide range of tuber crops of which the important ones are Potato, Sweet Potato, Yam, Colocasia and Tapioca.
Potato is extensively grown in the East and West Khasi Hills District, tapioca is found in Ri-Bhoi and Garo Hills District while sweet potato is cultivated throughout the State. Since potato is a very important cash crop, a separate profile is kept in the website for this crop.
Sweet potato, yam and tapioca are grown both in the Kharif and Rabi seasons. Both the white and red skin variety of sweet potato are grown. Al though the area under sweet potato and tapioca are relatively significant, their commercial value is rather low.
