Indigeneous Plants
Meghalaya abounds in various indigenous fruit plants, herbs and shrubs which are rare and perhaps not grown anywhere else in the world.
The Department of Agriculture have already started exploiting commercially some of the varieties through its fruit processing units, thereby providing a monopoly role in the market place.
The prominent indigenous plants of the State are Myrica nagi (Sohphie), Prunus nepalensis (Sohiong), Eleagnus khasianum (Sohshang), Flemingia vestita (Sohphan), Docynia indica khasiana (Soh Phoh Khasi) etc.
Some of the above mentioned plants have been processed as squashes/juices, jams and pickles.
