List of Micro Watersheds Project to be Taken Up During The XIth Plan In Meghalaya

Micro-Watershed

In each of the selected Blocks, a micro-watershed of about 500-1000 ha is taken up for Integrated Development. The ideal size is about 500 ha. area which could be saturated within the plan period. While selecting the micro-watershed, the following criteria should be kept in mind.
  1. The micro-watershed should be easily accessible and preferable be located in the vicinity of Block headquarter.
  2. The micro-watershed should be visible. This is possible when the project area is selected by the side of the main road through which people and government officers frequently pass.
  3. It should be located at a central place where farmers from the surrounding areas may easily assemble and see the process.
  4. It should have preferable 50% or more of its area under cultivation so that the farmers are directly involved and benefited.
A group of villages constituting a micro-watershed having a preponderance of small and marginal farmers, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and backward classes should get priority while selecting micro-watershed.
