Pulses

        Pulses have not become widely popular in the State and occupy a smaller share in the area and production under food-grains.

        The annual average area and production of pulses during the period 1990-91 to 2000-01 constitutes only about 2.44% and 1.44% respectively of the total area and production under food-grains in the State.

        The types of pulses grown in the State are Bengal gram, Black Gram, Green Gram, Soyabean and Pigeon Pea (also called Red gram or Arhar). Other pulses grown are Cowpea, Pea, Lentil and Rajma.
